Everday Sketchbook Part 1: Exercise 1.3
How personal do you want your sketchbook to be? To hide, or not to hide?
Where do you stand on how personal a sketchbook should be?
My sketchbooks arent usually personal, although I'm not one for showing of my drawings I do like making art in it that is intresting and fun to flick through for myself and maybe even others especially if theyres interactive elements. I would rather dedicate my sketchbooks to drawing and making things rather then using a whole page for text. Text would make it a bit more personal which I dont find appealing.
Do you want to reveal your soul or just comment about your ideas or your images?
I like to leave my drawings and paintings an such up for intepretation or again with minimal writing cause I feel like it ruins the effect of the 'Sketch'. I suppose for myself when I want to want to look back and get an idea of how I was feeling and why writing is good and also If you are wanting to tell readers you thought processes, or if I am planning soemthing and need to document something in writing to help develop ideas.
Using the 4 mini books from Exercise 1.2 visualise ways you could hide the books, or some
of the information contained in the books. Does the content of the books, relating to ‘the
everyday’, need to be extended in some way? For example, you might need to add in some
extra markmaking or words to extend your content.
Doing this activity I liked how they looked folded on their own but I did have a go at adding a few little details or colours In just as like a little oddball amongst the pages. This one I did from the Left side of me. It reminded me of a little character gesturing to the sky and added a littel red and some rain droplets.
another for the left side I found a part that kind of looked like an abstract robot or something. Just to make it a bit more noticable I added an obnoxious orange and a pink just to jazz it up. This is my favourite little page I picked out cause It had the most detail on it.
Again I found another page in the left book that I subtly added orange to match the 5 min timer on my phone. It kind of reminds me of a stop sign.
Another booklet I decided to add colour to was the front view. I picked random page and coloured them in. I unfolded this one becasue it left me with a cool contrast between grey and colour.
Ive unintentally coloured the most colourful parts of my room, the draws on the right are actually rainbow and I have cds/games/dvds stacked on the opposite side.I like the mixture of dark and light when I've unfolded this book. Its like little glimpses around my room makes you focus more on those bits and then compare with the grey and white.
I added on to my duvet sheet from the back angle to make a nice continious line flower
As for the other books I wanted to leave them as they are not only cause of the colours of the paper but they were the most intresting on their own it didn't feel necessary to change and add to them.

Looking at the pintrest page I love paper structures and interactive things, I also like small versions of things like mini books or envelopes that when you open have a littel letter inside. I have done similar creations in the past and it brings something to life, makes me feel like a kid again with like pop up books. I did a mini spider diagram just with some that Id like to use myself.
The mock ups I did I thought would be perfect for a little title/intro page to my sketchbook with the beginning activies and these paper pcokets.... I will deffinately be incoporating more of these little interactive hidden and not hidden pockets, fold outs, envelopes throughout my sketchbook.
So I I wanted to fill the whole page for this I like it when theres a lot to look at. I made a mini envelope with note paper and a bit of masking tape to secure it and also a large pocket at the top with the mini booklets in and drawing of them on the outside aswell as the other booklets I made doing the activities. These ones are quite obvious but I think I will include hidden one maybe painted or coloured the same colour as the page or something on the page so you have to look for it. This will be good for when I dont really want writing to be a focus.
