Exercise: Writing a brief
The project name: The Last of us
This project is for Sony Corporation, a major Japanese manufacturer of consumer electronics products, who too are involved with music, films, games, and other things of similar nature. They are partnered with Naughty Dog a first party Video Game developer based In California. They are making a game and need an illustrator/concept artist to bring to life their Ideas.
What it will be used for: We need an intense conceptual piece of art to promote the game so the audience can get a sense of the type of atmosphere. The ‘Last of Us’ Is a horror/action game set in a post-apocalyptic America, it has been 20 years since the brain infecting pandemic has altered a lot of the population. With so many infected and panicked hostile humans about Joel a surviving character who is a smuggler Is tasked with safely escorting 14-year-old girl Ellie across the country to a rebel base.
Context: Throughout their travels there are parts of the game when the two characters will encounter some unexpected problems causing them to part ways a few times before having to finding their way back to each other again, whilst apart there are some eerie and unpredictable moments they face.
Media: The art must be created digitally, Landscape [dimensions 1050 x 464]
Vision: Ellie wearing layered t shirt, jeans, converse, and backpack. She is on her own in this scene, the perspective is 3rd person, and she is looking off into the distance where the land looks vast in comparison to her, it is raining, and everything is heavily overgrown and deserted. There should be a bridge and maybe some distant lampposts/broken railings to suggest there is still a road. Attached to the bridge closer to us a sign could be in place to suggest the direction is east and some other information, add some wrecked cars/vehicles, rubble, and debris as well as tall buildings in the background. The daylight has run out so In Ellies hand should be a torch that she is shining at some overturned and destroyed vehicles; it is only illuminating a small portion of the image.
Colours: As the sun is set a dark and natural colour palette is necessary, blues, greys, greens, browns, and blacks ect. But not so intense that the scenery is unclear.
Text: The logo of the game “The last of us” will be sent over to you as well as the game developers’ logo “Naughty Dog” these are to be placed in the bottom of each corner. They should be just big enough to make out but not so big they take anything away from the image.
Target Audience: The game itself will be 18 but this artwork does not need to contain anything graphic it should be acceptable for all ages as it is just to set the tone for the game.
For the Environment - It would be helpful in researching different elements for this drawing things such as:
· The body and its proportions (think about her posture, her being alone and scared)
· Old, abandoned buildings/skyscrapers (preferably in the background)
· Concrete bridges in different states like cracks, breaks, crumbling. (different perspective?)
· Rusted destroyed cars (a few in different positions)
· Heavily overgrown locations (and buildings) with subtle hints of some colourful flowers, Climbing and hanging plants, long grass, shrubbery in general would be good for this too.
· American road signs (road number, airport, tunnel ahead…)
· Dark complimentary colours

I have played this game more than once, so while I described it from my perspective, I did use the PlayStation store and My cd game case for a synopsis to compare too.
