Altered books Part 4: Ex 1 Paper/Ephemera
For this exercise I gathered some different types of paper ephemera with different textures, thickness, colours, finishes. I am still searching for more unusual and papers with different properties so I can build up a collection. Here are some of the papers collected so far...
The types you can see in the pictures are:
Tracing paper -is almost opaque and slightly rough in texture, can easily be ripped. This paper remind me of the edible rice paper I ate as kid but i think it would have an extra gentle crunch other then tough rip.
Card - strudy and thick, teh black card is a bit rougher than the white card. Another type of card is the type that comes with clothing which is a bit flimsier.
Lottery ticket- feels smooth and has a sheen to it in the light.
Album insert- glossy paper.
Tissue paper- crunchy an almost opaque like tracing paper, easily creased.
Chocolate wrapper- has a finish on one side and rougher thin card on the other side.
A bookd of glossy paper- ranging from full shine pieces as well as matte pieces.
Book pages- natural off white colour and feels absorbant for the ink. The smell of books smell old in a good way like im sniffing the seams of the paper of a book that hasn't been opened for years. smells like words.
Package pieces from delivered clothing- scrunchable but slightly tough. I like the sound of ripping packaging theres a satisfying feeling of revealing whats inside and leaving all the mess around like christmas as a kid.
Heavy grain paper- rough in texture, thick
Patterened paper - normal finish but printed with images (tigers) I found this in an art shop and a tiger is my favourite animal so I had to include it.
Im sure I'll find more random paper ephemas to add to my collection which I will take a picture of.
