Exercise 1: Drawing things in the style of researched artists
These two are inspired by the works of Edward Ardizzone one digital and one on paper with pen pencil and watercolour. FIRST: Corona Virus restrictions and what is expected today of people. SECOND: Nasa's Mars Helicopter sucessfully landed and flown a total of 80 seconds 5m above the ground and 50m laterally.
The illustration on paper was a little difficult becasue I didnt have the best watercolours or pens to make bolder lines, Im not very happy with the final illustration it lacks the resemblance I was aiming for, however the digital was a lot easier to manouver becasue their were brush options and things could be easily changed and redone. I used the watercolour tool and the sketching pencil for lines.
When deciding what to draw I looked through the news and picked relevant issues happening today, and althought they arent exactly the same issues or experiences Ardizzone had he would illustrate occurances during that time so I did the same.
This illustration was inspired by Zohar Lazar's work, done digitally as again I didn't have the right equipment to physically draw it. I used the gouache paint brush as he typical uses that to create is illustrations, he too draws social, political, relevant news often making things into characatures and creatures I thought I'd personify corona virus into what I might imagine it to look like. It was easy to draw as again there was less effort then physically painting it, I do often prefer the tradtion way of creating but digital can offer such good results if understood.Im still familiarising myself with the set up of teh app procreate so this technically was an experiment.
