Part 2 Exercise 7: An objective drawing
A shoe - Converse
My drawing turned out good and clear, I did however struggle a little with translating what my eyes saw and the angle at which the shoe was at, the neck of the shoe is evidence of this as it was a bit longer than it really should have been. Nevertheless, I would say I captured the right proportions everywhere else, and it is obvious what it is. I focused on not being too heavy with shading and shadows besides the lines of colour on the shoe and the logo, I did this because I feel it gives more depth in contrast to the lighter cross hatching of the woven fabric. With experimenting with a few mark making techniques I applied them to this illustration, dots, hatching, line work I subtly used because I feel like sometimes the simpler the better and I didn’t want to go overboard and get messy. To soften the drawing, I used paper pencils and a hard eraser to exaggerate the lighter parts. When drawing the logo, I found it risky to capture its shape, position and writing similarly to the neck of the shoe.
