Part 1 Assignment 1: Recording and sharing your work and reflection IS

So far in my sketchbook I have created page with random events of the day as well as the exercises. Already I have involved making envelopes, opening and folding features as well as textures. I have chose my spiral sketchbook for my main bodies of work as I can fit more thinks in as apposed to a binded book. I want this sketchbook in particular to be an experience when reading. I have chose a smaller sketchbook for my planning, working in different artists styles and maybe a bit of writing in relation to the unit. I think it will be a nice contrast of having a more analytical technical or experimenatation based sketch book that can co inside with the main big sketchbook with the exercises and assignments intertwined with my own random work but they'll still remain seperate with their own ideas and contents.

I have'nt done much in this sketchbook but I also have put a lot of effort into making it interactive so far and although im allocating pages to certain exercises im not necessarly working in order, I can rely on what I feel like doing on a certain day then just following the exercises in order cause some days I may not feel like painting and other days I do want to get creative and spend a lot of time. Of course there is a structure as to not confuse each part but Im just making little notes on allocated pages to give myself a guide on what exercise I may do on this page at some point.

I have had my friends and family look through it so far to see what they think as they can actually interact with the pages which is what I want one of the main purposes to be for the sketchbook. I will share my sketchbook in the student forum when I have filled more pages.

This is the first page with all the first exercises in pouches and envelopes and questiosn answered on the other side.

One of my own pages were I just felt like talking about my day and felt a bit of inspiration from a video I watched.

This book will soon have a lot more art in it through future exercsises and random things I want to add.

How did your interpretation of ‘the everyday’ change as you have carried out the work for this assignment?

The only thoughts that really changed was the content I wanted to put in my sketchbook, at first I was only going to use it for exercises  but I actually thought having my own personal pages woud be good, It would show another side to how the exercises or everyday life inspire me or motivate me a certain day. I can show my own personality then just following the exercises. I think its such an open theme so I can literally sketch or draw whatever I feel on a certain day;maybe date it or write the events like you would in a diary.

Are there any aspects of the everyday that you think you would like to focus on in more
depth in future assignments?

I think just to make sure I incoporate my own life into my sketchbook to show some personality. I would like to focus on giving myself a bit of freedom to make mistakes or have a lot of writing on the page. I always seem to want to mkae every page perfect so loosening up will be good and experiemtnal exercises will help with that. Another focus is to create something an reader can enjoy with the interactive parts.

What will you take forward from your understanding of how other artists and illustrators use sketchbooks?
Again using it freely without restricting myself to just the work, experiement and not be afraid to fail.I maybe also be using a second sketchbook for keeping with me so I can sketch when I want or also trying out some of the styles from artists I've been researching. Lastly I think maybe sharing my work with other students on the forum or eventually joining a sketchbook circle may influence me.
