Visual Languages project 1 reflection and feedback
Reflection
Reflecting on this first visual language project, I enjoyed the process of the practical exercises. The 'cut-ups' exercise brought back some nostalgia, as I used to cut things out of magazines as a kid to make collages. It felt almost like a problem-solving task, trying to see which images and text fit together. The introduction to this unit took me back to basics in a good way, helping me figure out how to develop my own ideas through collaging and experimenting with a variety of concepts, materials, and media.
Overall, this first task felt like being a kid again, spending my free time collaging, journaling, and scrapbooking—it was quite a playful experience.
Feedback
I was satisfied with the feedback I received, as I did try to approach the exercises with a playful, open mindset, which I think was their aim. Moving forward, I realize I need to start exploring more artists and following up on suggested texts and works by others. This would give me a broader perspective and help me go beyond just my own work. I’m happy that my work in this project was received well; I wanted to keep it lighthearted and fun, as these were such experimental, hands-on tasks.
